As we tell our clients, travel to Africa offers so much opportunity to give back. We are all inspired when we visit local communities, help support local wildlife efforts, and “pack with a purpose“. In fact, all of you are giving back by spending your tourism dollars when you book your trip with African Portfolio. For every client that books with us, we donate to Uthando and Kasipiti, as well as numerous conservation charities. Not to forget that every park fee you pay helps conservation efforts, every lodge you stay provides jobs, and every Shilling or Rand you spend on souvenirs, goes directly to help the local economy.
During a recent visit to Kenya, Victoria learned about Campi ya Kanzi’s fundraising efforts to support the local communities and wildlife conservation. Inspired by her stay and the people she met, she truly wanted to go the extra mile (get it?). After a somewhat strenuous morning run with her Maasai guide Parashi, and a few glasses of wine after dinner, she decided to sign up and join the Campi ya Kanzi’s team participating in the New York City Marathon (read her story). The team is put together every year to raise money for the Maasai Wilderness Conservation Trust (MWCT).
In her own words ...
“I could not resist such an opportunity and challenge, right on my doorstep and, along with my BRF, Christine, have signed up to be part of the MWCT Team and join their fundraising efforts. Please take a moment to read more about my story, why I am running and support our efforts by donating to my fundraising page.“
We at African Portfolio have kickstarted her campaign and donated $500. If you would also like to support Victoria’s efforts, please click on her fundraising link and help the Maasai conserve their environment and protect their way of life – it’s a win-win!
And…if you happen to be in New York City on November 4th, 2018, do go and cheer her on!
