Our Rafiki Safari is a wonderful, family friendly 11 day, 10 night adventure in Kenya. Each of the camps and lodges in this itinerary has its own individual style and charm, offering experiences that make it completely unique. Amboseli is known for its magnificent elephants (a population of over 1000 elephants reside in the parks eco-system), while walking safaris with local Maasai guides provide intimate insight into the local Maasai culture. In the Lewa Conservancy, you are privy to some of the most spectacular wildlife viewing that Kenya has to offer: lion, leopard and jackal thrive on the rich diversity of prey that inhabits the area. Your last three nights on safari are at elegant Sand River Camp in Masai Mara, on the border with Tanzania and if the timing is right, there is a chance of witnessing the migrating herds of wildebeest crossing the Sand River, right from your tent.
In close proximity to the Airport, Ole Sereni is the most iconic hotel in Nairobi that sits opposite the Nairobi National Park. Here, you can watch zebras stopping for their morning drink as you sip your own out on your room’s private balcony. Under the constant protection of local tribes, we’ll take you in the bush for an exhilarating safari or a game drive. The Duma Salon & Spa is waiting to help you rehydrate, restore and re-energize for your next adventure
Staying at Tortilis Camp, there is one thing that immediately captures your attention: the stunning views of towering Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Yet there is so much more that makes this 17-tent camp just outside Amboseli National Park so enchanting. Each of the tents is en-suite, featuring elegant bathrooms with hot-water showers and modern flush toilets, as well as tasteful décor that will have you believing you are in an elegant auberge. Sheltered from the sun by a mukuti (thatched) roof, your large stone verandah is a perfect place to wile away the hours, as is the cozy, lantern-lit main lounge and the refreshing swimming pool. And as the scents of the home-style North Italian cuisine waft through the air, you’ll no doubt find your way to the dining room as well. Outside of camp, the wildlife of this renowned park is impressive– lion, cheetah, hyena, jackal, and especially the 1,000 elephants that call the area home—yet you can also connect with the deep cultural roots here by visiting the local Maasai village. Tortilis is also a camp that takes the term “family friendly” seriously, offering a family tent and a family house as well as the option for early mealtimes and babysitting service if needed.
Lewa Safari Camp has a stunning location within Lewa Wildlife Conservancy – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – with outstanding game viewing and views of Mt. Kenya to the south and the arid lowlands to the north. Each tent has a thatched roof, verandah and full ensuite bathroom, very much in the ‘Lewa’ style. The central areas have cool gardens with a sunny verandah and swimming pool to enjoy during the day, and cosy log fires in the lounge and dining room during the chilly evenings. The camp is based within the private 62,000 acre wildlife conservancy. The conservancy is home to about 10% of Kenya’s black rhino population, and the single largest population of Grevy’s zebra in the world. Lewa reinvests all the profits generated from tourism into its core programs. When you visit Elewana Lewa Safari Camp, you contribute to helping thousands of people from different backgrounds and cultures to improve their lives, and give their children a future, at the same time as ensuring Africa’s wildlife has a stable home. You’ll enjoy outstanding game drives with plentiful rhino, elephant, buffalo, the rare Grevy’s zebra and resident predators, to a backdrop of beautiful views of snow-capped Mt. Kenya. Lewa Safari Camp’s walking guides are trained wildlife rangers from the Conservancy. Apart from their knowledge on rhino conservation, they are also knowledgeable about the tracks and botany.
The Masai Mara together with Tanzania’s Serengeti form Africa’s most famous wildlife park, the Masai Mara National Reserve. The image of acacia trees dotting endless grass plains epitomizes Africa for many, then add a Maasai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further. Situated along the banks of a river from which it has taken its name, Sand River Masai Mara is located within the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya on a secluded and picturesque site. The camp enjoys stunning views over the Sand River and out to the neighbouring grassy hills and plains of Tanzania. The camp sits on the migration route for the millions of wildebeest, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle that move between Serengeti and Maasai Mara every year. Guests enjoy the privilege of exclusive views of the plains and hills dotted with thousands of animals as well as being in the thick of the excitement of frenetic and famed river crossings, all from the comfort of camp. Comprising of 16 tented accommodations, Sand River Masai Mara replicates the heyday of exclusive permanent tented camps of the late 1920’s. Divided into two separate but adjoining campsites of 10 and 6 tents, each area possessing its own designated dining and public areas, Sand River Masai Mara provides an atmosphere of exclusivity and class. As the Masai Mara is renowned for its spectacular game viewing and wildlife interactions, why not enjoy it with the most traditional of safari activities – a game drive!
