November is one of our favorite months to travel to Africa. The tourists thin out, airlines often have sales on flights, and the weather begins to warm up (which makes it less painful to wake up at 5 am for the morning game drive)!
November brings much needed rain to southern Africa causing a veritable baby boom in the bush. This is a great time to see newborn warthogs, impala, zebra and more. Naturally, the predators like this season too! With  “green season” prices it’s a great time to go on safari, high end camps are often marked down by as much as 40%. The mornings are often clear and warm, with clouds and the occasional thunderstorm in the afternoons. The Zebra migration making its way through the Makgadikgadi Pans in Botswana is yet another excuse to visit this fantastic safari destination.
Cape Town livens up for the summer with outdoor concerts, picnics on vineyard lawns, and fabulous organic food markets. The warm sunshine makes it a perfect time to add beach to your safari in Mozambique and Zanzibar.
East Africa is also “on sale” due to the short rainy season, the perfect time to enjoy the Mara without the crowds, and you still have a chance to see the great migration in northern Tanzania, as the herds make their was back to the Serengeti.   The beach resorts on the Kenya coast also offer attractive deals at this time of year.

November Festivals and Events to Keep in Mind…

• All November – Kirstenbosch Summer concerts in Cape Town. Check out the calendar and ask us to book you a picnic while you enjoy the beautiful gardens and music with the locals.
• Early November – Mombasa Carnival will add some spice to your beach vacation. Musicians and artists from all over Kenya participate as well as representatives of the many different tribes showing off their cultural finery in a parade that snakes down the city’s main avenue.
• Restaurant Week, throughout South Africa, amazing prices for lunch and dinner at all your favorite restaurants!
• Late November – Cairo International Film Festival is one of the largest film festivals on the continent, now enjoying its 37th year. Showcasing talent from the Middle East and beyond.
• Mid November – Ficksburg Cherry Festival, one of South Africa‘s most established festivals is attended by more than 20,000 people every year to taste cherry pie, jam and even cherry mampoer (a type of moonshine).
